In March 2013 the Dja Dja Wurrung People achieved a landmark native title settlement.

It was the first settlement to be primarily resolved under the Traditional Owner Settlement Act 2010 (Vic).

Our Work

Native Title Services Victoria offers Aboriginal claimant groups in Victoria expertise in research to establish the basis for Native Title claims, and expertise in law and mediation to process the claims and to make associated agreements.

In addition NTSV works with Traditional Owner groups to enhance its governance capacity building and to facilitate its development of its economic and natural resource management aspirations pre and post settlement.

We can help Native Title groups to:

  • lodge claims
  • negotiate with other parties who want to make use of land subject to Native Title interests
  • resolve disputes between Aboriginal groups in relation to Native Title matters.

Since Native Title is a communal title, claims should be brought only by applicants who have the on-going support of the traditional owner group.

As a general rule we will not provide assistance to individuals wishing to claim Native Title on their own behalf or on behalf of a small group of immediate family members.

Please contact us  if you would like to discuss your particular circumstances, so that we can advise you on how to proceed.
