Native Title Services Victoria offers Indigenous claimant groups in Victoria expertise in research to establish the basis for Native Title claims, and expertise in law and mediation to process the claims and to make associated agreements.
Native Title Services Victoria can help Native Title groups to:
lodge claims
negotiate with other parties who want to make use of land subject to Native Title interests
resolve disputes between Indigenous groups in relation to Native Title matters.
Since Native Title is a communal title, claims should be brought only by applicants who have the on-going support of the traditional owner group.
As a general rule we will not provide assistance to individuals wishing to claim Native Title on their own behalf or on behalf of a small group of immediate family members.
